Roosevelt, De La Salle, Branson big winners at 16th annual NorCal Tip-Off in Dublin

SoCal-NorCal heavyweight matchups split with Roosevelt-Eastvale and De La Salle scoring impressive wins; Illinois-bound Jase Butler leads small-school Branson past Mitty

The following are results and high scorers from the 16th annual NorCal Tip-Off at Dublin High School on Saturday. 

Gerry Freitas' nine-game event tipped off at 8 a.m. with the finale starting at 8:30 p.m.

No. 4 Roosevelt-Eastvale 77, No. 5 Riordan 72

Roosevelt drilled seven 3-pointers in the first quarter to take a 29-15 lead and though the Crusaders, behind 25 points from sophomore guard Andrew Hillman (23 in the second half), came back, it couldn't make up for the first-quarter deficit. Brayden Burries was as good as advertised with 28 points, eight rebounds and five blocks and Colorado State-bound Darnez Slater contributed 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Teammate Issac Williamson drilled five 3-pointers. SMC-bound Zion Sensley, a transfer from Prolific Prep, added 23 points for the Crusaders. 

No. 15 De La Salle 62, No. 3 Corona Centennial 51

Ibrahim Monawar, a 6-3 sophomore guard, scored a game-high 22 points and Leo Ricketts added 21 as the Spartans led pretty much start to finish. The backcourt made 9 of 15 on 3-point attempts. Arizona-bound forward Carter Bryant (18 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks) and UCLA-bound wing Eric Freeny (16 points) led Centennial, the 2022 state Open Division champs. 

No. 14 Branson 65, No. 8 Mitty 58

Illinoise signee Jase Butler, a 6-5 point guard, had 23 points, nine rebounds and five assists, and junior guard Semetri Carr added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Bulls. UC-San Diego signee Gavin Ripp had 16 points, eight rebounds and three blocks for Mitty and Riverside-bound guard Tyler Jones added 15. Mitty cut a 35-20 halftime deficitto 51-47 with 6:30 left in the fourth but Butler and Carr proved too much. 

No. 20 San Ramon Valley 70, Capital Christian 56

Luke Isaak had 21 points and Elliot Conley 15 points and nine rebounds, leading four players in double digits for the Wolves who were in control throughout. Jaylen Faldez led Capital Christian with 18 points, nine rebounds and three steals and Myles Wiggins contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds.  

No. 22 Clovis West 78, Vanden 64

D.J. Stickman exploded for 32 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals leading Clovis West on a 25-11 run in the fourth quarter to break a 53-53 tie. Vanden, minus two starters due to a fracus at the Bishop O'Dowd Showcase Friday, was led by Josh Neal with 15 points. 

Weston Ranch 85, Bakersfield Christian 72

Izaias White led four players in double figures with 22 points, Richard Banks added 19 and Darrion Lilly 18 as Weston Ranch improved to 2-0. Gabe Gutierrez was the day's high scorer with 41 points on 16 of 26 from the floor for Bakersfield Christian. 

St. Ignatius 63, Dublin 54

A 25-9 run in the fourth quarter ignited the Wildcats to the win over the host Gaels, who got 20 points and 12 rebounds from Jalen Stokes. Raymond Whitley had 23 points and Vince Crisp 22 points for the winners. 

Lincoln-Stockton 73, Ygnacio Valley 60

Anthony Moore, a 6-7 junior had a game-high 21 points, 6-6 senior Quentin Thompson added 15 for Lincoln. Anthonio Kellogg Jr. and Jalan Cody had 17 points apiece for Ygnacio Valley, which made 8 of 10 3-pointers in the first half but couldn't keep up the hot shooting. 

Bellarmine 68, Head-Royce 49

Julian Gospich and Nick Corbett combined for 32 points and 18 rebounds for Bellarmine, and Will Corbett added 16 points. Micah Nyamuzuwe had 12 points for the Jayhawks.
