Michael Baba transfers to Sierra Canyon basketball

Michael Baba, a 6-foot-9 forward, is the second transfer to Sierra Canyon in the last two weeks

Alemany High junior boys basketball player Michael Baba has transferred to Sierra Canyon.

Baba, a 6-foot-9 forward, is the second transfer to Sierra Canyon in the last two weeks. Crespi sophomore wing Stephen Kankole completed his transfer to the Chatsworth school on Nov. 3.

The high school basketball season started Nov. 13.

Baba played his sophomore season at San Gabriel Academy, helping the Eagles win the CIF Southern Section Division 3A championship. Baba then transferred to Alemany and played summer basketball with the Warriors.

The CIF office deemed Baba a sit-out period transfer at Alemany this season, meaning he'd be eligible Dec. 24. However, now that he's transferred again (to Sierra Canyon), his sit-out period designation has been used, according to a CIF spokesperson.

By CIF rule, a second transfer means a student-athlete will be limited to lower-level participation at their new school unless the student-athlete files a valid change of residence (and it's accepted), which makes the student-athlete eligible immediately.

Baba's enrollment was confirmed Thursday morning, but his eligibility status is unknown.

Chaminade and Crespi are schools in the same league as Sierra Canyon - the Mission League - and are scheduled to play January 5 and 12, respectively.
