Brawl breaks out after California high school football game
A brawl broke out after high school football rivals Pacifica and Oxnard High played on Friday, Oct. 27.
Pacifica, a school also located in Oxnard, defeated Oxnard 42-14 to complete its undefeated regular season (10-0).
In the video, it appears the fight between the two teams unfolds amid the handshake line after the game. The brawl spills off the field and onto the track right in front of the stands.
There's a scramble from coaches and admin to control the fight, but there are too many players involved to avoid the mix up from getting worse. At one point in the video, a Pacifica player (green helmet) kicks an Oxnard player while he's on the ground.
"Pacifica and Oxnard are working with CIF Southern Section on this issue," Oxnard Union High School District Supt. Thomas McCoy wrote in a email. "Both schools are taking steps to ensure this type of issue does not reoccur."
Pacifica is set to host a CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoff game Friday (Nov. 3) against Cajon, but suspensions are expected to be handed down that could jeopardize the availability of players for Friday's playoff opener.
The CIF Southern Section is aware of the incident and is waiting on the schools to provide information on possible suspensions.
