Central Section No. 1 Clovis North finishes regular season unbeaten with 27-20 win over Central

Broncos use familiar formula — rushing and defense — to win 10th straight game with hard-earned win over surging Central to clinch the Tri-River Athletic Conference crown

The Tri-River Athletic Conference of the Central Section has established itself as one of the very best leagues in California.

So for Clovis North to run through the TRAC unscathed — quite literally — is quite a feat.

Central Section scores: Thursday | Friday

The Broncos did that, but it wasn't easy, as they pulled out a 27-20 win over a surging Central-Fresno team Thursday night at Veteran's Memorial Stadium on the campus of Buchanan High School in Clovis.

Jackson Cinfel rushed for two touchdowns and McKay Madsen and Andrew Chavez rushed for one each as the Broncos finished 10-0 overall and 5-0 in TRAC play.

McKay Madsen (3) had a touchdown run and an interception in Thursday's 27-20 win over Central.

Besides rolling over five of the Central Sections top teams — Clovis East, Clovis, Clovis West, Buchanan and Central — by a combined 144-76 count, Clovis North also recorded a signature win over Southern Section and Trinity League power JSerra Catholic, 23-7.

Madsen completed a 6-play, 70-yard drive to start the game with a 3-yard run. Cinfel added TD jaunts of 26 and 4 yards before Chavez put it away in the final minute with a 4-yard TD run.

Central (7-3, 3-2), which had recorded impressive wins over Buchanan (27-6), Clovis East (58-55) and Clovis West (27-15), after opening TRAC with a bitter 38-37 loss to Clovis, didn't go down quietly.

After Chavez TD run, the Grizzlies down right down field capped with a 22-yard touchdown pass from David Marquez to Noel Felix III, to make it 27-20 with 27 seconds to play.

Marquez, who has been brilliant throughout the second half of the season, earlier had a 14-yard TD pass to Felix and 1-yard TD run.
