Highlights: New-look Canyon (Anaheim) girls basketball rolls against Santa Fe Christian at H.O.P.E. Showcase

Canyon balled out in a 49-26 preseason win against Santa Fe Christian

CYPRESS, CALIF. - You heard it here first: health permitting, Canyon (Anaheim) will be one of the most improved high school girls basketball teams in Orange County, if not the entire Southern Section.

After going 7-19 last year, Canyon looks poised for a turnaround. Earlier this month at the H.O.P.E. Showcase, Canyon notched an impressive 49-26 win over Santa Fe Christian despite missing three of its top players.

It's largely a new group, as it graduated several seniors – including the majority of its top statistical producers – picked up a couple transfers, and is now coached by Sara Brown. Brown established herself as one of the top young coaches in northern Orange County and beyond in four seasons at Fairmont Prep.

Undersized but athletic and unselfish, Canyon turned defensive stops into rebounds into fast break opportunities all game long. If that performance was any indication of the upcoming season, the Comanches will be a force in CIFSS Division 4A if they're able to shoot nearly as well as they did against Santa Fe Christian. Despite the loss, Santa Fe Christian racked up a few impressive highlights as well, as you'll see in the video.
