Kennedy's Alonzo Fuentes-Gutierrez is SBLive/Sports Illustrated's Southern California Athlete of the Week (10/23/2023)

Multi-talented, versatile standout led the Cougars to a 36-28 win over Sylmar on Oct. 13

Kennedy of Granada Hills senior Alonzo Fuentes-Gutierrez does it all on the football field for the Cougars.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound running back and strong safety has rushed for more than 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns, caught 16 passes for nearly 200 more yards and recorded 47 tackles on defense.

But it was in a 36-28 win over Sylmar on Oct. 13 that Fuentes-Gutierrez really showed his all-around skills, accounting for 198 yards and three touchdowns. He also had seven tackles.

That put him on an SBLive performance list, where his numbers really soared.

Put to a vote, Fuentes-Gutierrez piled up 3,640 of them to earn 52 percent of the ballot and earn the SBLive Southern California Athlete of the Week for games played Oct. 12-14.
