North Coast Section
De La Salle 31, El Cerrito 12: Toa Faavae completed a 60-yard touchdown pass to Johnathan Guerrero on De La Salle's first play from scrimmage en route to a 31-0 lead early in the first quarter while winning an emotional game for assistant coach Steve Jacoby, who died unexpectedly Thursday night. De La Salle, which got a 19-yard scoop and score from linebacker Drew Cunningham, won its sixth straight game to improved to 6-2, while El Cerrito dropped to 7-1 despite limiting the Spartans to 236 yards. San Ramon Valley 14, California 0: A week after their first loss of the season, a draining 33-27 overtime home defeat to De La Salle, the Wolves went on the road to pull out the gritty East Bay Athletic League Mountain Division win. A Luke Baker 55-yard touchdown pass to Marco Jones with 10:30 left gave the Wolves (7-1) the two score cushion. California dropped to 5-3. Jones, a 4-star junior prospect, scored the game's only other touchdown with a 2-yard TD run.
Las Lomas 45, Campolindo 42: They'll be talking about this game in Walnut Creek for a long time. The Knights (8-0) broke an 11-game losing streak to the visiting Cougars (5-2-1) which led 21-17 at halftime, trailed 31-28 heading into the fourth quarter, before the teams each traded two touchdowns.
Even Campolindo coach Kevin Macy on losing side had an appreciation for the wild back-and-forth nature of the game: “It was a wild game where the weirdest things happened,” he said. “It was a classic. It was going to be a classic whoever won.”
According to the San Jose Mercury News, Daniel Downes made a touchdown grab over two defenders with less than a minute to play to finish off a game that featured 10 lead changes. It was one of four TD passes from Dylan Thomas. Micah Parker and Sebastian Antonios-McCrea rushed for two TDs each for Campolindo.
Clayton Valley Charter 39, Monte Vista 35: Tyson Lovett completed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Daven Amos to cut Monte Vista's lead to 35-33 with nine minutes to go and then fired a 5-yard scoring toss to Michael Keck for the game winner with two minutes to go to pull out the wild EBAL Mountain win. Brayden Turner threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns and Julian McMahan rushed for 156 yards and three TDs for Monte Vista (4-4, 1-2). Clayton Valley improved to 4-4 and 2-1.
Livermore 45, Dublin 34: Everyone is talking about the remarkable, record-setting performance of Kamarri Robinson, who rushed 29 times for 534 yards and five touchdowns. The mark broke a NCS single-game rushing mark while ranking fifth all-time in state history, according to Cal-Hi Sports,. SEE STORY
Central Section
Frontier-Bakersfield 25, Liberty 20: Kobie Watson scored the game-winning touchdown on a 50-yard touchdown from Malakhi Stater, then he clinched the win with an interception as fourth-ranked Frontier (9-0) shocked the two-time defending section D1 champion and host Patriots (7-2). Clayton Turk's 60-yard touchdown pass to Mehki Delouth had given Liberty, ranked No. 2 in the Northern Section, a 20-19 with five minutes left in the third. the score would remain that way for 10 minutes before Watson hauled in the go-ahead score. Brycen Cael gave Frontier a 7-0 lead on a 90-yard scamper, before Delouth scored on back-to-back TD runs of 7 and 25 years to go up 14-7. Frontier responded with back-to-back touchdowns on 1-yard run by Brady Durkan, but both an extra point try and 2-point conversion failed, leading the Titans up 19-14. midway through the third. Turk and Delouth connected one minute later, but its two-point conversion failed as well.
Central-Fresno 27, Clovis West 15: In the remarkably tough TRAC League, the Grizzlies pulled off their second straight big win on Thursday to improve to 7-2 and 3-1 in TRAC play. They'll play Clovis North next week for the TRAC championship. David Marquez continued his remarkable senior season for Central, completing 15 of 19 for 247 yards while also rushing for two touchdowns.
Clovis North 28, Buchanan-Clovis 3: The Central Section's No. 1 team and No. 10 in California got two rushing touchdowns by Jackson Cinfel of 10 and 9 yards, Mario Cosma fired a 63-yard touchdown pass to Vincent Cordoba and McKay Madsen added a 1-yard run as the Broncos improved to 9-0 and 4-0.
Central Coast Section
St. Ignatius 38, Sacred Heart Cathedral 14: In the longest-running high school football rivalry West of the Mississippi River, The Wildcats (5-3, 3-2 WCAL) won going away at Kezar Stadium behind the constant running attack of Jarious Hogan and Cameron Jones. St. Ignatius held SHC (0-8, 0-5) scoreless the second half. According to Bay Area insider Ethan Kassel, Hogan rushed 17 times for 90 yards and two scores and Jones seven times for 102 yards and one score. QB Soren Hummel completed 9 of 16 for 105 yards and two TDs. This broke a two-game losing streak in the series for St. Ignatius, which has won 15 of the last 21.
Saint Francis 24, Valley Christian 14: Aaron Knapp accounted for three touchdowns, one runn and passes of 30 yards to James Jordan and 38 yards to Perrion Williams, leading the Lancers (5-3, 3-2) to victory. Christopher Han added a 24-yard field goal. Ekiah McLemore had a 2-yard TD run and Joseph Stephens completed a 25-yard score to Justice Matthews for Valley Christian (5-2, 2-3), which has lost three of its last four. St. Francis has won three straight in the series and holds a 13-11 lead since 2004.
Mitty 19, Bellarmine 0: Toju Maku capped a defensive masterpiece with a 58-yard pick 6 with 10:23 to go in the fourth quarter to give the Monarchs (6-2, 3-2) the home win.
Sac-Joaquin Section
Monterey Trail 35, Grant 34: Grant's Wayshawn Parker scored on a 5-yard run with 1:14 left in the fourth quarter and the Pacers went for the win. It was stopped inches short as the host Mustangs hung on for the dramatic win to knock Grant to 7-2 overall. The Mustangs improved to 6-3. Parker scored on a 54-yard run to close to 21-14 late in the second quarter before Monterey Trail scored on a 5-yard run just before halftime. TD runs by Devin Green and Parker tied the game at 28-28 early in the fourth before Vontrelle Waffer broke loose for a 43-yard TD run with five minutes to go, making it 35-28.
St. Mary's-Stockton 56, Tokay 0: The Sac-Joaquin Section's No. 2 team got not one but two pick 6s from Adam Taylor, of 65 and 37 yards, Asante Carter rushed for two scores and Samson Hunkin accounted for two more scores in the lopsided win. The Rams (8-1) — see highlights of their opening-season win over Clovis West — close the regular season next Friday at Lincoln-Stockton. Tokay dropped to 4-5.
