Highlights: Granite Hills holds off Helix 44-43 in double overtime (10/20/23)

Granite Hills extended their winning streak to 18 games with Friday's win

EL CAJON, CALIFORNIA— Granite Hills and Helix followed up last season's four overtime battle with a double overtime classic on Friday night.

Granite Hills was able to stop Helix's two-point conversion attempt in the second overtime, emerging with a 44-43 victory. The Eagles, coming off a CIF State D2-A championship in 2022, have now won 18 straight games.

Friday's win appears to lock in Granite Hills for the San Diego Section Open Division playoffs, which would be their first appearance in the top division. Granite Hills running backs Max Turner and Pablo Jackson each rushed for two touchdowns while junior receiver Brenden Lewis caught a touchdown in the second overtime period.

Helix running back Kevin Allen III helped get the Highlanders back into the game, rushing for five touchdowns on 39 carries.
