Newbury Park's Shane Rosenthal is SBLive/Sports Illustrated's Southern California Athlete of the Week for second straight week (10/16/2023)

The junior receiver/defensive back does it again, this time with a dominating two-way performance

If at first you succeed, try, try again.

Newbury Park junior receiver and defensive back Shane Rosenthal did just that by earning SBLive/Sports Illustrated's Southern California Athlete of the Week award for the second straight week.

Rosenthal, a 5-foot-11, 180-pounder had nine catches for 141 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-14 win over Agoura on Oct. 6, the same game he came down with two interceptions.

That put Rosenthal on a top performer's list, where he put up even bigger numbers.

He piled up 53 percent of the vote to edge Rancho Cucamonga running back Trey Wilson (45 percent) to take home the coveted prize.

Rosenthal also won last week's Athlete of the Week for hauling in 12 passes for 290 yards and three scores in a 35-28 loss to Moorpark.

For the season, Rosenthal has 71 catches, 1,102 yards and 13 touchdowns for the 5-3 Panthers.
