Oakland Tech sweeps boys and girls Oakland Section basketball championship games

One game was predictably tight. One was predictably one-sided.
Oakland Tech swept the Oakland Section boys and girls basketball championship games Saturday night at Fremont High School.
After winning two previous games by two points each, 81-79 and 61-59, the Tech boys defeated Oakland for a third time, this time 53-50 behind 24 points from Ahmaree Muhammad and 13 by Ardarius Gates.

Omari Staples Jr., a Stanford commit in football, added nine points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs (19-11), including a tough baseline move and bucket with 50 seconds to all but seal it.
Money Williams had 17 points and Josh Clark and Anthony Lacy combined for 16 for Oakland (22-8).
Both teams will advance to next week's CIF Regional. Divisions, opponents and destinations will be announced on Sunday.

The powerhouse Bulldogs, winners of state titles in 2019 (Division 4) and 2021 (Division 3), had leads of 34-2 and 73-8 after the first two periods before letting off the gas.
OAL MVP Erin Sellers had 26 points and Jorday Taylor and Mari Somvichian added 10 apiece.
Expect the Bulldogs to elevate to at least Division I play at regionals. They have won 13 straight.
