Watch: Kennedy Smith (26 points) leads Etiwanda past Mater Dei in high-powered playoff battle

Etiwanda and Mater Dei looked the part of recent Open Division champions in their semifinals matchup

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. – Etiwanda girls basketball is one win away from going back-to-back in the Southern Section Open Division.

5-star junior Kennedy Smith led the way with 26 points on Saturday as the second-seeded Eagles overpowered a strong effort from No. 3 Mater Dei to win 71-58. Aliyahna "Puff" Morris scored 20 points for Etiwanda, and Sa'lah Hemingway and Mykelle Richards added 9 points and 8 points, respectively.

Addie Deal led Mater Dei with 16 points, and Shaena Brew scored 14.

With the win, Etiwanda won the Pool B Division with a 3-0 record and now faces national No. 1 Sierra Canyon, which won Pool A also with a 3-0 mark, for the Southern Section crown on Saturday at the Honda Center.
