LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Garfield senior Anthony Cardenas threw a gem striking out five in a complete game 3-0 semifinal win over Bell on Tuesday. The victory puts the Bulldogs in the Division 1 LA City Section title game on Saturday against Narbonne at Dodger Stadium. First pitch is at 10 am.

Cardenas gave up a leadoff single in the game, but then retired the next 13 batters he faced. He finished the game with a 1,2,3 seventh.

Garfield scored all three of their runs courtesy of junior Jose Rosas. A first inning RBI double from Rosas put Garfield up 1-0. A third inning RBI single from Rosas doubled the Bulldogs' lead to 2-0 and then in the seventh, he was at it again slugging another RBI double making it 3-0 Garfield.

Bell starting pitcher Alejandro Rosas gave up the first two runs, but battled all game striking out eight in six innings. Reliever Isaias Flores gave up Rosas' seventh inning RBI double.

On Saturday, Garfield will play for their first baseball City title since 1997, when the Bulldogs beat Washington Prep 8-6 to win the 3A crown. Garfield also won City titles in baseball in 1952 and 1956.
