Highlights and photos: Poway beats Carlsbad 7-3 in North County Coastal League baseball opener

Seniors Carson Burnett and Nick Cook had two hits each for Poway.

POWAY, Calif. -- Poway wasted no time in Tuesday's North County Coastal League opener. The Titans began the bottom half of the first inning with four consecutive singles, the last coming off the bat of senior right fielder Nick Cook, scoring two runs.

The Titans added a third run on a fielder's choice before Cook stepped up in the third inning and launched a home run over the left field wall that gave Poway a 5-0 lead.

Poway added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to enter the final frame with a comfortable lead but Carlsbad would not go down without a fight. The Lancers strung together three hits in the final frame including a massive two-run home run from Jaydon Boone that narrowed the final score to 7-3.
