Meet SBLive's 2022 All-LA City Section Boys Basketball teams: King/Drew's Kalib LaCount is Player of the Year

The teams were put together by SBLive California reporter Connor Morrissette.

With the 2022 California high school basketball season in the books, it's time to hand out some awards.

After covering dozens of games and talking to dozens of coaches across the Section this season, here are SBLive's Boys Basketball All-LA City Section first and second teams. The Section wide teams were compiled by SBLive reporter Connor Morrissette and include a Player of the Year.


G: Kalib LaCount - King/Drew - Senior

LaCount averaged a whopping 33.5 points per game for the Golden Eagles this season. He led King/Drew to the school’s first ever Open Division championship appearance, a 76-64 loss to Fairfax. LaCount also averaged 6.5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4.2 steals per game. He played at a level above the rest of the Section this season and for that, he's been named Player of the Year. 


G: Tyler Bey - Fairfax - Senior


Bey was the top player on the City's top team this season. He scored 21 points to lead Fairfax to a 76-64 Open Division championship win over King/Drew. 

G: Tyler Hunt - Venice - Sophomore


Hunt had a fantastic year for Venice leading the Gondoliers to their best season in school history. Venice may have lost 57-53 to Pleasant Valley in the Division 3 CIF State championship game, but Hunt scored 22 points and had members of the media asking him about his college recruitment afterwards.

G: Kory Blunt - Birmingham - Junior

Kory Blunt - Birmingham high school

Blunt was an All-West Valley first team selection who averaged 14.1 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals per game for the Patriots. 

G/F: Jeremiah Windham - Grant - Senior

Windham led Grant to the Division 1 LA City Section championship this season. He averaged 25.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.6 steals per game. 

C: Larry Olayinka - Birmingham - Senior


Olayinka was named Co-West Valley League Player of the Year after averaging 13.8 points, 11.8 rebounds and 5 blocks per game this season for the Patriots.


G: AJ Johnson - Taft - Junior

Johnson is arguably the top college basketball prospect in the LA City Section. He led the Toreadors to a share of the West Valley League title and an Open Division playoff berth. Johnson was also named to the All-West Valley League first team. 

G: David Mack - Fairfax - Sophomore

Mack was named the co-Western League Most Valuable Player along with teammate Tyler Bey. He scored 16 points in Fairfax's 76-64 Open Division championship win over King/Drew.

G/F: Keyon Kensie - Taft - Junior

Taft basketball

Kensie was a first team All-West Valley League selection this season. He scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a 77-55 league win over Cleveland. 

G/F: Jaden Hubbard - Fairfax- Sophomore

Hubbard was a first team All-Western League pick this season. In Fairfax's 61-45 regular season win over rival Westchester, he connected on six 3-pointers. In Fairfax's 76-64 Open Division championship win over King/Drew, Hubbard scored 10 points. 

F: Ijeze Anopueme - Narbonne - Senior

Ijezie Anopueme - Narbonne

Anopueme was Narbonne's most consistent player this season. In a 56-53 Marine League win over Gardena, he scored 33 points and grabbed 20 rebounds.
