Just a week after asking for his release from Michigan, Central High School (Fresno) wide receiver Xavier Worthy announced his commitment to Texas on Saturday.

Worthy, widely considered one of the best receivers in the class of 2021, signed with Michigan in December and considered enrolling early. He opted to stay at Central, but did not play his abbreviated senior season of high school football. On April 15 he announced he had asked for his release from Michigan.

Worthy got to know Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian when he was the offensive coordinator at Alabama. 'Sark' nearly landed him at Alabama, and now will have him at Texas.

Worthy helped lead Central to a CIF state championship in 2019, catching 54 passes for 992 yards and 16 touchdowns. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound speedster is one of the fastest players in the class of 2021. He recorded a time of 10.55 in the 100-meter dash as a sophomore.
