Shiloh Christian hires former UCA baseball coach Allen Gum

The Bears’ all-time winningest coach begins his tenure in June

Shiloh Christian announced a recognizable name around Arkansas college baseball as its new coach Monday.

Allen Gum, who achieved success at Southern Arkansas University and the University of Central Arkansas, takes over at Shiloh Christian beginning June 1. The Saints begin this season this month under the direction of interim coach Jamie Beers. Former head coach Josh Salsbury was relieved of his coaching duties in December.

Gum coached two seasons at Batesville High School and then began a successful 16-year collegiate coaching career with SAU and UCA, respectively.

Gum is the all-time winningest coach, with 310 victories, at Division I UCA and his Bears won one Southland Conference title and qualified for the SLC tournament all eight seasons.

Under his direction at SAU, a Division II program, the Muleriders won 226 games, multiple Gulf South Conference titles and four NCAA regional berths.

Gum accepted the Morrilton High School job last year before changing his mind quickly.
