The San Francisco 49ers lost linebacker Dre Greenlaw - one of their best defensive players - to a lower leg injury in the second quarter of their Super Bowl 2024 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Greenlaw was injured running onto the field after a television timeout. He slipped and went down, and had to be helped to the sideline. A cart eventually came over to the sideline and transported him to the 49ers locker room. He has been ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Greenlaw has been battling Achilles tendinitis and it looked like his injury was potentially related to his Achilles.

Here's video of Greenlaw's injury:

Greenlaw graduated from Fayetteville (Arkansas) High School and was a star at the University of Arkansas.

Greenlaw had to overcome off-the-field struggles before he could focus on football. He was in and out of group homes and foster homes as a child and before his sophomore year at Fayetteville High School was headed back to the foster home system, but his high school defensive coordinator, Brian Early, stepped in. He and his wife adopted Greenlaw and kept him at FHS.
