David Clark abruptly resigns as Marion boys basketball coach

Clark won 108 games in five seasons

The Marion Patriots Activities Network announced Tuesday morning that boys head basketball coach David Clark resigned his position Monday afternoon "to pursue other opportunities."

"We are forever grateful and appreciative of Coach Clark for his efforts in building and promoting our boys basketball program," Marion athletic director Derek Harrell mentioned in the release. "We know that Coach Clark will be successful in any endeavor he decides to turn his attention to next."

A Little Rock native and a graduate of shuttered J.A. Fair, Clark finished with an impressive 108-37 record in his five seasons with Marion and helped the Patriots win the Class 5A state championship during his first season in 2018-19, the lone title in the program's history. Marion also reached the state finals under Clark during the 2021-22 season and finished in the 5A quarterfinals last season with a 24-8 record.

Lead assistant Emmanuel Wade has been promoted to head coach and brings an impressive resume. Wade led one of the state's great turnarounds as head coach at Marianna, winning the 2A state championship with the Trojans during the 2020-21 season just two years removed from the program winning only one game.
