Here are the candidates for the WaFd Bank Arizona High School Girls Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 26-Jan. 1 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.

Sidney Anderson, Sophomore, Ironwood Ridge - Setting a new career-high of 31 points on Wednesday, Dec. 21 in the team’s 89-17 victory over Mohave, she also had three rebounds, three assists and seven steals.

Grace Beckler, Freshman, Basha - Tying her career-high of 25 points Wednesday, Dec. 21 at the Nike TOC against Saguaro, Beckler also had a double-double with 13 rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.

Sierra Bomhower, Junior, Cibola - Posting a new career high of 30 points, Bomhower also had two rebounds, a steal and a block to help Cibola defeat Paradise Valley 53-42 on Friday, Dec. 30.

AJ Bonapart, Senior, Sahuaro - Leading things on the court for the Cougars on Tuesday, Dec. 27 in their 78-34 victory over Paloma Valley (CA) at the Southern California Holiday Prep Classic, Bonapart had 23 points, four rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.

Victoria Cazares, Senior, Pueblo - Helping Pueblo pick up a 59-50 victory over Sunnyside on Monday Dec. 19, Cazares led the game in scoring with 21 points, four rebounds, three assists and four steals. She followed it up after the holidays on Wednesday, Dec. 28 by shooting 82-percent from the field to pick up 26 points, eight rebounds, an assist, three steals and a block to assist Pueblo to a 82-36 victory over Buena. Later in the same day, she helped them grind to a 72-68 win over Catalina Foothills with 22 points, five rebounds, five assists and six steals.

Reilly Clark, Senior, Catalina Foothills - At the Flowing Wells Holiday Shootout on Wednesday, Dec. 28, Clark had a double-double while averaging 77-percent from the field in the Falcons 70-30 victory over Rio Rico. She finished the game with 22 points, six rebounds, ten assists, four steals and a block.

Cassandra Coolidge, Junior, Sahuaro - Closing out 2022 in style, Coolidge dropped a double-double on Friday, Dec. 30 to help Sahuaro defeat Village Christian (CA) 63-55. Coolidge finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds and four assists on the night.

Savanna Creal, Junior, Hamilton - Leading Hamilton in scoring on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at the Nike TOC against St. Joseph (CA), Creal had 22 points, five rebounds and three steals to help Hamilton pick up a 43-36 victory.

Emma Dasovich, Junior, Valley Vista - Leading the Monsoon on the court in their 69-48 victory over Gilbert on Friday, Dec. 30, Dasovich had 23 points along with five rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Abby Dean, Junior, Boulder Creek - At the Queens of the Court Tournament on Wednesday, Dec. 28, Dean set a new career high with 32 points in the 71-8 victory over Metro Tech. She also had a rebound, an assist and four steals in the win.

Sydney Dickerson, Junior, North - Dickerson had a lights-out performance on Tuesday, Dec. 27th in North’s game against Central. Not only did she set a new career-high of 22 points, she also had another double-double on the season with 17 rebounds as well as two assists, two steals and two blocks.

Jaci Gonnie, Junior, Winslow - Over the two week stretch, Gonnie helped Winslow win three of its four games by averaging 24.25 points, 8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.25 steals per game.

Kailyn Holsey, Sophomore, Coronado - Working in tandem with her teammate Ariel Douglas, Holsey helped Coronado pick up a 54-36 victory over Metro Tech on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at the Queens of the Court Challenge with 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists, seven steals and a block.

Bianca Hurtado, Freshman, Campo Verde - Posting a new career-high of 18 points on Tuesday, Dec. 27 in the 84-38 victory over Alhambra, the young freshman led things on the court for the Coyotes while also snagging four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Maggie Luba, Freshman, Sunnyside - At the Nike TOC on Tuesday Dec. 20, Luba took charge to help Sunnyslope pick up a 60-27 victory over Queen Creek with 21 points, eight rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Aspen McClees, Freshman, Gilbert - Coming up big for Gilbert on Wednesday, Dec. 28th in their game against Arizona College Prep, McClees had 19 points along with seven rebounds, four assists, five steals and a block to help the Tigers nab a 63-26 win.

Lexie Merrill, Senior, Buckeye - With a double-double, Merrill helped Buckeye pick up a 63-57 victory over Leading Edge Academy on Thursday, Dec. 29. She finished the game with 20 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, two steals and a block.

Haley Nicholas, Senior, Thatcher - In Thatcher’s 71-25 victory over Morenci on Monday, Dec. 19, Nicholas had 17 points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals in 21 minutes of play.

Nayeli Nidez-Acuna, Junior, Sunnyside - With a season-high of 29 points Monday, Dec. 19 in Sunnyside’s game against Pueblo, she also had 13 rebounds for a double-double along with an assist and a block.

Jessica Olerud, Senior, Notre Dame Prep - At the Nike TOC on Tuesday, Dec. 20, Olerud led the game in scoring with 15 points, as well as six rebounds, an assist, two steals and a block to help the Saints defeat Greak Oak (CA) 46-45.

Madison Pond, Junior, Estrella Foothills - In Estrella Foothills’ 56-41 victory over Coconino on Thursday, Dec. 29, Pond had 28 points, six rebounds, three assists, a steal and three blocks.

Aniyah Riddell, Junior, Mountain Pointe - Leading Mountain Pointe to a 36-32 victory over Crean Lutheran (CA) on Monday, Dec. 19 at the Nike TOC, Riddell had a double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks.

Jerzy Robinson, Freshman, Desert Vista - At the Nike Tournament of Champions, Robinson hit a game winning buzzer beater on Wednesday, Dec. 21 to help Desert Vista defeat St. Mary’s of Stockton (CA) 68-66 after averaging a double-double on Monday and Tuesday with 19.5 points and 11 rebounds.

Gabriella Sanchez, Senior, Tucson - Sanchez had a double-double on Thursday, Dec. 29 in Tucson’s 39-36 victory over Thunderbird, posting 19 points, 15 rebounds, seven steals and three blocks.

Mia Singstock, Senior, Pinnacle - Shooting 75-percent from the field on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at the Nike TOC, Singstock had 26 points, nine rebounds, three steals and a block to help Pinnacle defeat Mesquite 59-50. 

Layla Thompson, Junior, Miami - Dropping a double-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds, an assist, four steals and a block, Thompson was the leader on the court in Miami’s victory over The Gregory School on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
